The Shire

Foxlane & East Stirlingshire FCBy Gordon HendersonBefore I moved up here back in ‘81 I supported The Shire. This year has been a great opportunity for me to re-immerse myself in the beautiful game played at Firs Park. Never before have I had the free time needed to pursue a hobby or a passion outside of growing plants and caring for Foxlane. As Foxlane is more than my job it is my life, 24/7.I took my son Hugh to see the Shire play Elgin and although we lost 6-0 the old Shire flame was rekindled. After more than half a season following the team again I could see opportunities to involve the business and social sides of Foxlane with the club, via sponsorships and match day outings. Foxlane now sponsors the Shire’s training gear and our workers now each sponsor a player. To say this has improved morale during our year of transition would be an understatement.I can see the similarities between Foxlane and East Stirlingshire, we’ve both seen hard times recently, we’re both full of characters and we’re both emerging from these difficult times with a new sense of optimism.
